Tumble Man

I pray to be a stone
Smooth by wear and chance
Exposing mineral bone
That makes the colours dance

I have for long been rough
And under heaven’s glance
I pray for yet more chance enough
To wear and to enhance

There is a time for everything
And time has worn me down
The toughest grinding gritty thing
Has not yet fined my frown

The minerals leached into my core
That show now on my face
Those streaks and jades remaining sore
Will finally then become my lace

I dare not pray to be of price
So great the pain of pearl
Just smooth by what’s been hard to slice
And patterned for the better world
