I get a wasp’s a pest
Like an ugly stinging nettle
But with legs and wings it’s no
Rose with reddened petal
Yellow banded with black hairs
Big dark eyes to boot
Long waving antennae
And a sting ready to shoot
I get scorpions are pesty
Like a big ugly scotch thistle
But with pincers and a curling tail
They are no blackberry bristle
Eight legs and armour plated
Snapping claws to boot
Long trailing harpoon
With a sharpened end to suit
I get arachnids ain’t pretty
Insects ain’t that beautiful to all
But these creatures great and small
Deserve awe even if they crawl
More legs may mean more alien
Strange colour ain’t always cute
Complex design’s hard to adore
But bugs should give us a hoot
These creatures wise and wonderful
Have a vital role to play
Even blowflies filling our coast
Keep roadkill decaying at bay
And when you look really close
If you stop and get down low
Even get out a magnifying glass
They put on a breathtaking show
Each little egg that opens
Each little bug that springs
All wasps and scorpions
He made their legs and stings
All things foe and fendful
All creatures good and small
All things dull and colourful
The Lord God made them all
