Sunday Sonrise

There came the night
The friend betrays
His own lose light
Before the day’s

Desert and flee
Peter denies
Jesus no plea
To Pilate’s surprise

Easter Friday
Christ in the mud
Blackened midday
Red with his blood

Why call it good
Dark noon skies
Cries out loud
As King he dies

The curtain rips
The earth it shakes
Rocks they split
And tombs they break

The guards who saw
Aghast they stood
“Surely this was
The Son of God”

Pilate he gives
The body awayed
Joseph’s new tomb
It hurriedly laid

Sealing the stone
The very next day
Left not alone
Guards posted to stay

Then came the night
Of Saturday
The Passover flight
The Sabbath Day

In darkness they rise
Then comes the light
Of Sunday morning
The women’s fright

The earth it shakes
The stone roles away
The women they quake
“Where does it lay?”

Two standing bright
And answering clear
They bow at the sight
“He is not here”

Rising Sunday
Like a flood
“Risen” they say
Ascending above

“Just as he told us”
The Women they run
Suddenly Jesus
They see and are stunned

Falling down low
And clasping his feet
A greeting, then “Go!
In Galilee we meet”

It happened one way
And others too
Appearing, not to stay
And not just to a few

Six hear Peter say
“I’m going out to fish”
But the night slipped away
Empty boat with a wish

Early in the morn
A man stood on the shore
“Cast out once more”
Seven disciples unsure

Wind on the water
Fish fill the net
Coals on the beach
Peter gets wet

Finding a fire
A feast made ready
They know it’s the Lord
A miracle of plenty

Together, eating
Touching flesh and bone
Talking, laughing
Hearts turning from stone

They see him again!
Their hearts full of glee
In the daylight plain
By the Sea of Galilee
